Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of the Pawnda app and website, operated by Kinovia LLC. Pawnda keeps your pet’s records and offers general guidance. It is not veterinary care.
1. Who we are and what Pawnda is
Pawnda is operated by Kinovia LLC (“Kinovia”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at support@pawnda.app.
Pawnda is a record-keeping and general guidance app for pet owners. It keeps your pet’s weight, breathing counts, hydration and gum checks, the symptoms you log, photos, foods and documents in one place, and helps you decide whether and when to involve a veterinarian. A pet owner’s account is free, and the same account, username and records work on the Pawnda website and in the app.
Kinovia also operates a portal used by veterinarians and veterinary practices. These Terms cover the Pawnda owner app and the Pawnda website. A clinic that has its own agreement with Kinovia uses the veterinary portal under that agreement. A veterinarian who opens a vet account on the Pawnda website accepts these Terms when they sign up; section 10 says how vet access works.
Pawnda is offered in the United States and Canada. By creating an account or using Pawnda, you agree to these Terms.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be 18 or older to create a Pawnda account. When you sign up you confirm your age and your acceptance of these Terms and the Privacy Policy; we record that attestation with the document versions you accepted, the time, and the app or browser you used.
Pawnda is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and delete its data.
3. Pawnda is not veterinary care
Using Pawnda does not create a veterinarian–client–patient relationship. No part of Pawnda is a substitute for examination by a licensed veterinarian.
Pawnda does not diagnose, prescribe, dose or treat. Nothing Pawnda itself produces (an AI answer, a pre-triage, a home check result, a recall alert, a value read from a record) is a medical opinion about your animal. It is general information to help you observe your pet and decide when to call a professional. A record or a visit note written by your vet comes from your vet, not from Pawnda.
In an emergency, call an emergency veterinary clinic or an animal poison control line immediately. Do not use Pawnda to decide whether an emergency is an emergency.
Pawnda offers guidance and record-keeping. It is not veterinary care.
4. Ask Pawnda, the AI assistant
Ask Pawnda generates answers with an artificial-intelligence model operated by a third-party model provider (Anthropic). Your question, any photo you choose to attach, and a summary of your pet’s owner-entered records are sent to that provider to produce the answer. Section 4 of the Privacy Policy describes exactly what is sent.
AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Every AI answer in the app carries the line “Not professional advice · AI can make mistakes”, and you agree not to rely on it as medical advice.
Questions that look like emergencies (trouble breathing, collapse, seizures, suspected poisoning, blood, straining to urinate or not peeing for hours, not drinking overnight, not eating for days, trauma, bloat, overheating) are intercepted before they reach the model. Instead of an answer you get a “call a vet now” panel. Those turns are free and are never counted against your plan.
Pawnda instructs the model never to name a condition, never to recommend or dose a medication, supplement or treatment, and never to reassure you that a symptom is nothing. If you ask for a diagnosis, a medicine or a dose, Ask Pawnda declines and points you to a veterinarian. You agree not to try to circumvent those limits, including by rephrasing a question to obtain medical instructions.
On the free plan, Ask Pawnda includes a set number of questions per calendar month (three at the time of this version). Emergency redirects, photo reads that come back urgent, unreadable photos and failed requests do not use up that allowance. Prime includes unlimited questions.
Pre-triage. When something seems wrong, you can run a pre-triage on the website or in the app: you say what is wrong, since when and what has changed, and Pawnda says how soon to see a vet (now, today, in the next few days, or watch at home), what to do meanwhile and which signs mean go now. The emergency screen above runs first, on what you type at each step. The rest of the guidance comes from fixed rules. When our AI model is available it may add general advice of its own, shown apart from the rules’ guidance under “From Pawnda’s AI” with the line “Not professional advice · AI can make mistakes”; it can make the urgency higher, never lower. The guidance, AI lines included, is never a diagnosis and never names a medicine or a dose, and a pre-triage does not use your Ask Pawnda questions. It is saved to your pet’s records as owner-entered, where the vets on your pet’s care team read it (section 8). When the result is go now or see a vet today, those vets also see an alert in their Pawnda portal. Pawnda does not phone, text or email them, so call your vet yourself.
5. Home checks and home readings
The four home checks (resting breaths, weigh-and-hug, skin tent and gum check) are measured by you, at home, with no clinical instrument. They are owner-entered observations, not clinical measurements, and they are never verified by Pawnda or by a veterinarian before they are saved.
The reference bands the app shows (for example, “under 30 breaths a minute at rest”) are general guidance, not a diagnosis and not a threshold for action. A home check never replaces a physical exam.
Readings you save become part of your pet’s records. They are visible to any veterinarian you share the record with, and they appear on a share page exactly as you entered them.
6. Food-recall alerts
Recall alerts are matched against the foods you log (brand, product, lot and best-by) and against the recall notices we hold. Matching is best-effort: names on a bag and names in a notice rarely agree word for word, so Pawnda matches loosely and can miss a recall or flag a food that is not actually affected. If you did not record a lot number, Pawnda still warns you and tells you to check the bag.
No live recall source is connected yet. Until one is, the notices we hold are fictional samples, shown only in demo accounts and labeled “Sample data”, and other accounts receive no recall alerts.
Pawnda is not a regulator and is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s or the regulator’s own notices. You remain responsible for checking those sources and for deciding what to do with a food.
An urgent-severity recall is unlocked for every plan as soon as it is published. Other recalls are unlocked within an hour of publication on Prime and after 7 days on the free plan; a free account is told that alerts are pending and when the next one unlocks, and is never denied an alert permanently.
Alerts appear when you open the app. Pawnda does not send push notifications today and does not promise that an alert will reach you within any particular period of time. Push notifications are planned, not shipped.
A real recall is never hidden behind sample data.
7. Your Pawnda address
Your Pawnda addresses are made from the username you choose: your username followed by @pawnda.com is yours, and your username, an underscore and a pet’s name is that pet’s. They are shown in the app and on the website. An account made before usernames also keeps the address first issued to it. You choose your username once, and it cannot be changed in the app or on the website. Mail sent to these addresses is filed into your account.
By forwarding mail, or asking a clinic to send records to your Pawnda addresses, you confirm you have the right to share what those messages contain.
For every message we receive we store the sender’s address, the subject, the time it arrived, and its attachments (for a message with no attachment, its own text). Mail from a sender you have not approved is held, not filed, until you decide. Approving a message files its attachments as records and trusts that sender, so their future mail files itself automatically; you can also add a trusted sender yourself, and remove one at any time. A message that does not pass its sender’s domain’s DMARC check waits for you, even from a trusted sender, so mail from a clinic whose domain publishes no DMARC policy always waits for your approval. Mail you forward from the email address you sign in with files like a trusted sender’s. Blocking a message drops its held attachments without filing them and blocks that sender until you unblock them or add them as a trusted sender; you can also dismiss a waiting message without blocking its sender.
Mail to a pet’s address is filed for that pet. Mail to your own address is filed for your only pet; if you have more than one, Pawnda looks for a pet’s name in the subject, on a “Patient:” line or in an attachment’s file name, and for a microchip number anywhere (and, for a sender you trust, may ask our AI model provider, as the Privacy Policy describes); a name only in the body of the message is not enough, and if it still cannot tell, the message waits for you to choose. It never guesses. A message is split between pets only when each attachment clearly names one. Misfiled mail is your responsibility to correct: move the record to the right pet in the app, or email support@pawnda.app and we will remove it.
Pawnda is not a party to your correspondence with your clinic and does not reply to mail on your behalf. We may reissue a Pawnda address if it is abused or if the underlying mail domain changes; if we do, we will tell you.
8. Sharing your pet’s record
You can create a share link (and a QR code for it) that a veterinarian can open without a Pawnda account. The link only opens with the password you set: the vet’s email address, or an access code Pawnda gives you to pass on. Anyone you give the password to can read the page until the link expires or you revoke it. Links last 3 days by default and 7 days at most. While the link is live, anyone with the password can open each record on the page, read-only, in their browser (a PDF or a picture as it arrived, but without any location data; any other record as its text), and can ask Pawnda general questions about the page, up to 30 a day for everyone using that link. Those answers are general guidance, never a diagnosis, a medicine or a dose; a veterinarian signed in to a Pawnda vet account gets clinical answers instead. Pawnda offers no download button, but a browser can save or print what it shows, so anyone with the password can save what they open.
A veterinarian with active Pawnda access (section 10) who unlocks the link while signed in keeps the pet in their patient list until you remove them. Any other veterinarian with a Pawnda account, a free one included, can keep the pet in their patient list for 30 days, read-only, seeing what a vet on your pet’s care team sees, including records you add later. Turning off the link or removing them ends it sooner. If their access becomes active meanwhile, they stay until you remove them.
A shared page shows your pet’s name, species, breed and birth date; vaccination records and latest lab values as extracted from your records, marked unverified until a vet confirms them; the records on file, each of which opens as described above; the visit notes your vets added to your pet’s records, and your pre-triages, in full; the home check readings you recorded (weight, resting breaths, skin tent and gum checks); the symptoms you logged, including your notes; a summary of your daily check-ins over the last 30 days; and how many photos of your pet are on file. The photos you add are not listed and do not open there, unless you add a picture as a record (a photographed report, a scanned page): that opens like any record. The page itself does not show your name or contact details, but a record shows whatever is in it: a clinic’s record often carries your name, address and phone number. A veterinarian who keeps the pet in their patient list can open the files and photos in the Pawnda portal.
You are responsible for who you give a password to. You can revoke a link at any time on the pet’s Share screen, or on the website under the pet’s Vets tab; it stops opening immediately, and a vet keeping your pet for 30 days through it loses access.
Your pet’s care team. On the website or in the app, you can find vets who are on Pawnda by name, clinic or city and add them to your pet’s care team. A vet also joins the care team when you name them on a visit, or when they keep your pet from a share link. Each vet on the care team can see your pet in their Pawnda patient list, with what you share there: its records and photos, your home logs, your pre-triages, the visits you mark, and your name. A vet can open it while their Pawnda access is active, read-only for 14 days after that access ends, or read-only for the 30 days they keep it from your share link. You can remove a vet at any time; your pet leaves their patient list right away. For each vet you see their clinic and, when one is on file, its phone number. A Verified badge means the Pawnda team reviewed that vet’s account, or the vet joined with a coupon issued to their own email address. It is not an endorsement of their care, and choosing a vet is your decision.
Visits. You can mark when you are seeing a vet: the date, the time if you know it, the vet, the reason, your questions, and a pre-triage and records to go with it. Marking a visit adds that vet to your pet’s care team if they are not on it yet. Every vet on the care team sees every visit you mark for that pet, whichever vet it is with. You can change or delete a visit at any time. A vet can add their visit note to your pet’s records: it shows as from them, it stays as it was when they added it (an edited note comes in as a new record), and you can share it on like any other record.
When you send documents to a practice through Pawnda, or a practice receives records from you, that practice keeps its own copy under the veterinary recordkeeping rules that apply to it. Deleting your Pawnda account does not delete a clinic’s copy.
Guardian Score reports. You can also share your Guardian Score with a landlord, a sitter or a rescue as a report: a link, a QR code and a PDF. A report is not your pet’s record. It shows your first name and last initial, your score and level, your care streak and each pet’s first name and care points as they were when you made it, and never a medical detail, a record or your email address. Anyone with the link or the QR code can open it, without a password, until it expires 30 days after you made it or until you revoke it in the app. “Issued by Pawnda” on a report means Pawnda worked the score out from what was recorded in the app; it does not mean anyone checked your pet or your care in person.
9. Your content and its accuracy
You keep ownership of everything you put into Pawnda. You grant Kinovia a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process (including processing by our AI model provider as described in section 4), display and transmit that content for the purpose of operating the service for you. The license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies already delivered to a veterinary practice and for backups awaiting their normal expiry.
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter: names, dates, weights, foods, lot numbers and notes. Pawnda charts what you give it and does not correct it.
You must not upload content you have no right to share, content about another person’s animal without their permission, or anything unlawful.
You can export a pet’s records as one PDF from the pet’s Share screen in the app, or with Export as one PDF on its Records tab on the website. Records cannot be edited from inside the app yet; until they can, email support@pawnda.app to correct what we hold.
10. Plans: Free and Prime
The free plan includes one pet, unlimited home checks, photos and use of your Pawnda addresses, other recalls unlocked after 7 days, and a limited number of Ask Pawnda questions each month.
Prime includes every pet in your household, other recalls unlocked within an hour of publication, unlimited Ask Pawnda questions, and breed-specific context in answers.
Urgent-severity notices are unlocked for every plan as soon as they are published; no plan holds one back. As section 6 says, alerts appear when you open the app: Pawnda does not send push notifications today and does not promise that an alert will reach you within any particular period of time.
Prime is not for sale yet. Every account is on the free plan and no fees are charged. When Prime is offered, it will be sold through the App Store, and purchase, renewal, cancellation and refunds will be governed by Apple’s terms and by the subscription terms shown at purchase.
We may add, change or withdraw plan features. If a change materially reduces what your plan includes, we will tell you first.
Vet accounts. A veterinarian can open a free vet account on the Pawnda website. Without active access, the portal opens one demo patient (a fictional cat built from a real, de-identified record) and the pets the vet keeps from owners’ share links for 30 days, with a small daily number of Ask Pawnda questions (20 about the demo patient and 10 about shared pets at the time of this version). Opening any other patient takes active Pawnda access, which comes from a coupon (free for 1, 2 or 3 months; each code works once, and expires if it is not redeemed in time), from founding access, which the founders give vets who already had a Pawnda vet account when memberships began, from a membership, from a confirmed email address at pawnda.app, Pawnda’s own domain (team access), or from being on the founders’ list of testers, such as investors, advisors and test users (test access). Test access ends at once, with no read-only days, when the founders remove the tester or on the end date they set. Team and test accounts are listed for owners, and can be shown as Verified, on the same terms as any other vet account. Memberships are not for sale yet: pressing Subscribe records the vet’s interest, and no one is charged. The portal reminds a vet 7 days and 1 day before access that will not renew ends. For 14 days after it ends, charts stay readable but the vet cannot write notes, upload records or ask Pawnda about them; after that, the portal opens only the demo patient and pets kept from share links until access is active again. Nothing is deleted when access ends, and owners’ shares stay in place. Pawnda’s founders issue coupons, give founding access, keep the list of testers and can mark a vet as verified.
11. Acceptable use
Do not scrape or bulk-download the service, attempt to defeat the safety screening described in section 4, choose a username that impersonates another person, a clinic or Pawnda, send mail to a Pawnda address while impersonating a clinic or another person, flood a Pawnda address with mail, pass off an altered Guardian Score report as one Pawnda made, probe other accounts, or use Pawnda to build a competing dataset.
We may rate-limit, suspend or close an account that does any of these.
12. Termination and deletion
You may close your account from the app: open your account from Today, then choose Delete my account. On the website, pet owners choose Delete my account in the account menu, veterinarians choose it in Settings in the vet portal, under Account, and a clinic’s office desk account has it in its account menu. We record the request and erase your data within 30 days.
Two things survive that erasure: records already delivered to a veterinary practice, which the practice retains under its own obligations, and anything we are legally required to keep. We will tell you if that applies to you.
You can stop using Pawnda at any time. We may suspend or close an account for abuse, for legal reasons, or if we discontinue the service, with notice where it is practical to give it.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kinovia disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that AI answers or pre-triage guidance are accurate, that home readings are meaningful, that recall matching is complete or correct, that mail sent to your Pawnda addresses will arrive or be filed against the right pet, that a vet will see an alert, a visit or a shared record in time, or that the service will be uninterrupted.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kinovia is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or veterinary costs. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Kinovia for the service in the 12 months before the claim and one hundred US dollars.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including rights you may have under consumer-protection law in your US state or Canadian province.
14. Changes to these Terms
These Terms are versioned by date. We will post any new version in the app and on the Pawnda website.
When a change is material (in particular, any change to sections 3 through 8), the app, and your pet owner account on the website, will ask you to accept the new version before you continue using it. Minor corrections that do not change your rights keep the same version number.
15. Governing law, disputes and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Kinovia LLC is organized, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of that state have exclusive jurisdiction, except where the law of your home state or province gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
Before starting a formal dispute, please write to us at support@pawnda.app so we can try to resolve it.
